Quick Tips
TIPS TO MAKE YOUR STUDIO TIME MORE ENJOYABLE
- Know what songs you will be recording. Doing so will save you time in the studio. Make a list of the songs in the order you would like to record them.
- Know your songs. If at all possible, have your songs memorized. Doing so will allow you to sing and/or play with more feeling and excitement resulting in a better project.
- If you must bring lyrics have them printed and easily readable on one page per song so you don’t have to flip through pages or try and read while you are performing. You want as much attention on how your playing possible. Also the rustle of paper can get into the microphone.
- Backup vocals. If we are providing backup vocals, we will need a copy of the lyrics to each song.
- Sound Storm Studios does not take care of any royalties, this is the responsibility of the artist.
- Day of Session. Come to the studio expecting to enjoy the day. We will do all that we can to make this a fun experience. We do not in any way pressure our clients because we too want this to be your best project ever.
- Make sure everyone gets a full night of sleep the night before, is well hydrated, and have at least a quick jam earlier in the day to warm up. Practice the day before is a must – you don’t want to go in cold, and you don’t want to go in tired from practicing for three hours!
- Make sure everyone knows how to use a tuner, and periodically checks their tuning during the takes. Nothing screws a mix more than botched timing or being out of tune… so hopefully everyone’s been practicing to a metronome, right? *smirk*
- Don’t stop everytime you mess up and start over. It may make you get sick of that area really fast and burn you out. Ask the engineer if they can punch you in were you messed up.
- Get the sound you want while you are recording. Don’t expect that it can always be fixed in the mix
- You should try and keep effects to a minimum while recording cause you can always add them on later.
- Listen to a few songs you like in the studio, so you can get an idea of the sound from the speakers. Anywhere you go will be a little different.
- Keep an open mind when it comes to the mix down. The engineer has trained ears. let them do a scratch mix and come back with ideas for you on the end product. remember they want to make a masterpiece with you and they have the tools to do it.
